Check your patio layout before you request a quote
Mark the proposed patio at full size and place your main furniture within it. Walk the routes from the door to seating, gates and the yard. Record the conflicts before the provider assesses levels and drainage.

Start with activities rather than a rectangle
List what the space needs to accommodate: dining, seating, circulation or another specific use. Mark approximate zones and leave room to pull chairs out. The exercise describes your needs; it does not decide structural design or code requirements.
Check the edges
Doors, steps, downspouts, equipment and garden access all compete for space. Photograph each connection and note which changes you want. Tell the provider about future features before assuming a patio can support them.
Bring two layouts if you are unsure
A modest layout and a larger option can make tradeoffs easier to discuss. Use the planner to compare approximate area, then ask the provider to explain site preparation, drainage and finish differences. Geometry alone does not predict the final price.
